How often is the wait time data updated?

The wait time data is updated every 30 minutes from the official Quebec government data source. However, please note that actual wait times may vary depending on the time of day and the severity of cases being treated.

Using the Platform

Healthcare in Quebec

Do I need health insurance to visit a hospital?

In Quebec, residents with a valid health insurance card (RAMQ) receive free healthcare services. Visitors from other Canadian provinces should bring their provincial health card. International visitors may need to pay for services or have travel insurance.

What should I do in case of an emergency?

In case of a medical emergency, call 911 immediately. For non-life-threatening situations, you can visit the nearest emergency room. Our platform can help you find the hospital with the shortest wait time.

Metrics and Calculations

How do I find a hospital near me?

You can search for hospitals in two ways:

  1. Enter your address in the search bar
  2. Click the "Use My Location" button to automatically detect your location

The system will show you the nearest hospitals with their current wait times and occupancy rates.

How are the metrics calculated?

Our metrics are calculated using real-time data from Quebec's healthcare system:

  • ER Occupancy Rate: Calculated as (Number of occupied stretchers / Total functional stretchers) × 100%. This shows how full the emergency department is.
  • Waiting Rate: Based on the number of patients waiting for care compared to the total number of patients present in the ER.
  • Patients Over 24/48 Hours: Shows the number of patients who have been in the ER for more than 24 or 48 hours, indicating potential overcrowding.

These metrics are updated every 30 minutes to provide the most current information.
